Mark Zuckerberg is in trouble!
Facebook and Instagram, owned by social media giant Meta, have been accused of promoting and monetizing drug-related advertisements. 19 members of the US Congress have sent a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta, asking for an explanation. News Reuters.
The Tech Transparency Project (TTP) recently found hundreds of drug-related ads on Facebook and Instagram and released a report last month. In the wake of the report, 19 members of Congress have written to Zuckerberg asking why his social media platform has promoted ads related to drugs like cocaine, ecstasy.
TTP's report cites 450 ads from the Meta ad library that were served on Facebook and Instagram. The advertisements were used to sell 'various types of pharmaceuticals and other drugs'. Many of the ads used images of prescription drug bottles, various pills and powders, and cocaine, and directed viewers to external apps such as Telegram.
